Mission in the Workplace – Keith Chow as a Solicitor

Mission in the Workplace – Keith Chow as a Solicitor

Keith Chow was born in Hong Kong and grew up in a modest middle-class family. In 1971, while in Form 3, he was introduced to church by his elder brother and came to faith six months later. In 1981, Keith and his wife immigrated to Australia. By 1997, he had established his own law firm. Since 2022, he has entered semi-retirement and now resides in Sydney.

Daily Immersion in God’s Word – Shaping a Disciple’s Character

At the age of 15, one sentence deeply struck Keith’s heart:

“Life is always busy… If you don’t make time now to know God, serve Him, and share the gospel, you may never begin.”

Motivated by this conviction, Keith set a goal to read 20 chapters of the Bible daily to know God more. God’s Word nurtured his inner life and shaped him as a disciple. Like King Hezekiah who “walked before God faithfully and with wholehearted devotion, and did what was good in His eyes” (2 Kings 20:3), Keith sought to live with honesty before God and sincerity toward others. He would not simply follow the tide of the world, but kept his heart set on his Heavenly Father’s business.

Following God’s Lead in Life’s Decisions

Keith has always been a “people person,” passionate about working with others and desiring opportunities to share the gospel through his career. After completing his studies in the United States, he returned to Hong Kong with a vision to serve God in the marketplace.

During a short teaching stint, Keith built strong, trusting relationships with students and even led three of them to Christ. This confirmed his love for teaching, and he believed that God’s will for him might be to reach students as a teacher.

After immigrating to Australia, Keith completed three master’s degrees in education field, preparing to return to Hong Kong as a teacher. Yet doors repeatedly closed, and pursuing that path would have meant long separation from his wife. Through prayer and counsel, especially encouragement from his wife Joanna, Keith was led into the study of law. Law not only matched his interests but also allowed him to meet many people—providing both opportunities to share the gospel and a platform to uphold justice. In obedience, Keith laid aside his teaching dream and embraced a new calling as a solicitor.

Living Out the Mission of a Disciple

Keith holds a clear life motto:

“Life is service, and service is life. Let faith permeate life, and let life reflect faith.”

For him, discipleship means Christ is Lord over every area—family, work, and ministry.

Family

Keith treasures his family and models a Christ-centred home. He and Joanna sought to raise their children with faith, love, and service as their foundation. Today, all four children are believers, and their three-generation family of 17 is a testimony of God’s mercy and grace.

Keith deliberately balanced work and family life, refusing to become over-busy so he could spend time nurturing his children’s faith. His example also shaped his eldest son, who declined a business partnership opportunity in order to preserve balance between family, work, and ministry.

Workplace

At 39, Keith began practicing law. With God’s guidance, his career prospered, and in 1997 he established his own law firm, serving mainly the Chinese community.

Keith sees himself as a “missionary in the marketplace,” approaching clients with the heart of a servant. His goal was always to provide excellent service—not only to win trust but also to build a foundation for sharing the gospel. Recognizing that his time with clients was often brief, he prayed for wisdom in selecting cases, asking God to provide just 90% of his business needs. He intentionally categorized clients into 2 groups and “Group A” are those who might be more open to the gospel.

Through this approach, many seeds were sown, and some clients converted to Christ—including a former Buddhist who later became a pastor. His integrity and dedication to justice also earned respect from banks and corporations, glorifying God and blessing others.

Ministry

Although Keith entered semi-retirement in 2022, he has never retired from serving the Lord. For 30 years, he has served as a board member of Chinese Christian Mission Australia (CCMA), actively promoting mission work.

He remains deeply connected to alumni from various Hong Kong universities, cherishing friendships and praying for their salvation. Keith always carries copies of the Chinese Today (《中信》月刊) to share with non-believing friends whenever opportunities arise.

He continues preaching in churches—even traveling long distances—and often speaks at legal seminars. Whenever Will or related law is discussed, he ensures to include a short gospel message. Sometimes after preparing wills for clients, he’ll allocate a donation to CCMA, supporting its ministry.

A Life Testifying to God’s Grace

In April 2025, a sample e-edition of Keith’s new book Lawyer’s Notes (available here) was released, with print and e-book editions on the way. The book not only records Keith’s life journey but also illustrates how one can clearly embrace the identity of a disciple and live it out fully—especially in the workplace as a “missionary.”

Keith’s life bears witness to the truth: Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.

Full-time Disciple – Stone Lee

Wai Leung Lee (affectionately known as “Stone”) responded to God’s calling & went to Thailand with wholehearted obedience—faithfully playing his part as a midfielder who passes the “ball” (gospel) and as a coach who mentors others. He deeply understands that both his identity as a disciple (Being) and his actions in that role (Doing) are equally essential. As Stone once reflected during the HKD 80 million school building project: “I now have nothing to lose.” That, in fact, is the greatest strength of a full-time disciple: no turning back, total commitment, bold steps into uncharted territory—pressing forward to claim victory for the Lord.
